The Netherlands

Traditionally, the first week end of August is dedicated to the Amsterdam Gay Pride. This year, the events will take place between 3 and 6 August.

Canal Parade

A carnivalesque and extravagant parade of gaudy boats will sail through the canals of Amsterdam on saturday 5 August, this year with a Rembrandt theme.

The Canal Parade is characterised by the relaxed atmosphere of the Dutch capital. Along the route, there is a fascinating mixture of spectators: exuberant gays, mothers with strollers, enthusiastically waving grandmas and the occasional bewildered tourist.

Popular locations to watch the parade are the bridges across the Prinsengracht and Amstel and the quays near the Muziektheater.

Les fêtes

From Thursday through Sunday, the festivities are concentrated mainly in the entertainment areas around Reguliersdwarsstraat (young attendance), Halvemaanssteeg, Rembrandtplein, Amstel (popular dutch atmosphere), Westermarkt and Warmoesstraat (leather and fetish), and Paardenstraat (women).

The weekend is concluded on Sunday afternoon with a closing manifestation at Rembrandtplein.
